Jun 02, Eva rated it liked it. FYI, I read this because a friend is into her blog, not because, like, I'm the kind of girl who would read this.
The book didn't resonate with me, largely because I don't have the inclination to make my life a piece of seductive performance art. That said, the author said some interesting things: - Have a personal brand -- a look -- and be consistent with it. Nothing personal, but most men will find you more attractive. You'll look better. Both are good, but be honest with yourself about which path you're on with him and whether that's going to work for you.
If you're the hostess or the expert or whatever, you'll seem to be of higher value, plus you'll have more of an excuse to talk to people. Don't overwhelm him with pings, and don't ping him more than he pings you. Remember that most guys don't like talking on the phone. If you want to remain on his radar, do a non-demanding ping, like tagging him in a facebook photo.

If you've the Mystery Method or Revelations you'll be familiar with the social dynamics explored and explained step-by-step. Leigh does the same, and while she focuses on women, none of the theories have fundamentally changed. Though she explains things you should do like a adopt a persona she doesn't give specific examples or step-by-step instructions on how to do so.
Fundamentally she never hits the nail on the head. She doesn't discuss Arden Leigh adds nothing new to the conversation here. She doesn't discuss the most important chapters of any of the PUA books: how to talk and act around other people. If you want to know how to deal with bitchy girls that say mean things and try to dominate on you, if you want to appear mysterious and popular, if you want people to be drawn to your charisma you need to read the Mystery Method and Revelations and utilize their techniques for social behaviour.
A persona and a nice house only go so far. Additionally I disliked how the only examples she gave were her own about the BDSM industry as I don't think many people will connect with that. I went to high school with the author, so I bought this book to show support for an old schoolmate, and maybe learn a thing or two for myself about the art of seduction. I'm pretty sure I did not fit the target audience for this book, however.

I am not any of those things, and while I appreciate what she was trying to do with the book, as a whole it was not appealing to me.
The techniques she calls things like seduction, strategy, and brand marketing bordered on the manipulative mind games I steer far clear of in my personal dating life. The last chapter addresses this some, but it's a fine line. The book is also extremely gender-normative, and has quite a bit of unspoken shaming of women who do not adhere to gender norms and who cannot or will not spend large amounts of money on their gender-normative clothes, home decor, lingerie, makeup, etc.
Alternatively, maybe it just read like a guide to how to be like Arden? Once I got past my incredible annoyance at such things and just accepted the book for what it was, I was able to find tidbits of information that actually applied to me and even appealed to me. Some of the most useful tactics were in Part III onwards, as this is where it got out of the more shallow aspects of looking good, etc. Definitely helpful for me, even if I am far to shy to attempt some of the rather bold tactics she describes.

And that's why she wrote this book: to help people be happy. While it's intended for women, there is no reason that men can't use this same technique to figure out their own authentic self and thereby attract not only the mate they want but the mate who can last.
